Hem: Rabbit Songs
A lovely, handcrafted joy, this debut masterpiece features the amateur, knowing voice of Sally Ellyson (who landed the gig by responding to an ad in the paper) and songwriter Dan Messé (who sold off most of his belongings to make this). Truly an album, yet made up of several fabulous tunes, Hem manages to be spare and lush at the same time, while creating what they called an album they could love the rest of their lives. (****)

Will, are you trying to artificially boost the number of comments on your blog? : )

Right on, Nathan!
I guess no one's going to get Cap #1, no matter how many caps I post. No Almodovar fans out there? I guess that's not a terrible thing, since he can be a little edgy.
It's his 1999 film Todo Sobre Mi Madre (All About My Mother). The scene in the rain is the inciting action for the film's entire plot.

I believe Cap 2 is A Very Long Engagement.

man, your hint for #1 reminds me of Trois Colores: Rouge, but i know it's not it.
argh! this is a tricky one for sure.

I can't help but be mildly suspicious that your choice for #1's "hint cap" was partially influenced by my comment that I could not make out the woman's face.
Well, can't blame my computer resolution now...
After much mental wrangling, I gave up early today, did a search and found the answer (*shame*). Just FYI, no, I haven't seen that one. And no, I won't post the answer.
But I must say, the shot you chose for cap 1 was interesting and I had to wonder how much it revealed about the plot of the film: A woman in red, standing in the rain with (among other things) a dumpster in the background. I'm guessing it's a Waterloo Bridge type of story.

No, but that's a good guess.
NOTE: I've put a hint cap for each of the two films left. Hopefully that will help someone pick out the identity.

Isn't #1 Umbrellas of Cherbourg, the french film?
Posted by: Kat | 09 May 2007 at 06:03 PM
Yep, I'm guessing you've seen the first two, RC.
I'll post a hint later today if no one can guess them.

The bonus' i can get the real one's i'm not sure if I have seen or not...vaguely familiar #1 & #2.

Desiree: Yep, that's Amelie.
Stephen: Yep, that's Nights of Cabiria.
So far so good. Stephen, I'm interested to see if you've seen #1.
Posted by: Will | 09 May 2007 at 08:45 AM
Cap 3 is Nights of Cabiria.
Cap 1 looks awfully familiar, but I'll have to mull it over some more. If I could make out the face in the picture, I'd be more inclined to venture a guess.

Chalk up one for Charlie!
Posted by: Will | 08 May 2007 at 08:56 PM
This is a toughie. I'll say Lost in Translation for Bonus 1. The rest I'll have to stare at for awhile.
