The Score (2001)
Directed by Frank Oz
***1/4
Heist movies are clever. And we viewers know that ahead of time. So for every new heist movie, some screenwriter is working to be especially clever, hoping s/he can fool us with some original twists and unprecedented turns. If you're expecting those as the payoff in The Score, you may be a little disappointed. However, if you're expecting an interesting story, great performances and a good time, then you may have found a good pick. Somehow I had skipped this one, which is odd since it features three of my favorite all-time actors: Edward Norton, Robert DeNiro and, in his final performance, Marlon Brando. As they combine their wits to plan the perfect robbery, you know it's just a matter of time until you feel the rug slipping beneath your feet. The fun of this movie is enjoying the ride.
agreed. is there nothing edward norton cannot do?
